Freedom to Move
The Sidney Mae Olson Rainbow Fund started after a truck hit and killed 5-year-old Sidney in Andover, Massachusetts. Her parents, Eric (my friend, former coworker, and client) and his wife, are working hard to push Andover toward safer street design. This year they added the Freedom to Move Mile, a downhill race, to their annual Rainbow Day. I designed the logo package, with Freedom to Move set up as a name that could outgrow the race.
I kept coming back to the crosswalk, the one spot on a street where you’re supposed to be safe, and tried several versions. In the final, a crosswalk element splits Freedom from Move and leads into to. Rainbows are the fund’s theme, so the heart in the O uses overlapping rainbow colors that mix additively, with white where they all meet. A solid reversed version holds up on rainbow gradients.
