Industry Ipsum

Placeholder text has been boring since 1500. So I spent a weekend fixing that, and accidentally built something I actually use.

If you’ve ever dropped standard lorem ipsum into a marketing mockup, you know the disconnect. It looks like placeholder text. It feels like placeholder text. Nothing about “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” says “this is what a real headline sounds like.” I’d been quietly annoyed by this for years.

So I built something better. Or at least, more fun.

Industry Ipsum started as two things at once: a joke, and an excuse to finally try some tools I’d been putting off: Astro for the framework, Tailwind for styling, Netlify for deployment, and GitHub Copilot to speed things along. It’s a single-page generator that spits out marketing-flavored placeholder text. Think “customer journey brand positioning conversion rate journey organic reach.” You know, the stuff that ends up in real decks anyway.

You can mix in classic Latin to break up the monotony, swap between industries, and generate paragraphs that actually look like marketing copy, even if they don’t quite mean anything. Which, honestly, isn’t that far off from some briefs I’ve received.

It’s a small project. No big launch, no campaign. But it’s made the rounds with peers who get the joke, and I use it in my own mockups now. Honestly, that was the whole point.
